The project involves the design of housing with the idea of transparency in Atzgersdorf, Vienna. The site establishes a direct connection to the town center. Two housing blocks mark the entrances to the elongated site. The placement of two types of duplex apartments expands between the housing blocks and forms small courtyards.
Transparency is interpreted as a transition between public, semi-public, and private spaces. The patio is the central point for the spatial organization of the apartment. When entering the unit, the floor plan is immediately visible, as the patio provides a connection to the outdoors as well as between the interior rooms. The patio is also an important source of light and air. All living areas are glazed towards them. Transparency is a personal decision. Sliding blinds allow residents to individually decide where and when light and visibility is needed.
